A blog by any other name...

Not to go all poll-happy on everyone, but since we've decided the place is taking on a bit more of it's own aura, we're wondering if a new name (replacing The Thread Never Ends...)might be in order.  The thought is that, even though CiF has brought us all here, we don't want to feel too bound to Mother CiF (obviously, we're a bastard love-child) in the topics discussed.  Are we a teahouse?  Are we a pub?  Maybe you're happy with the Thread?  I'm going to give you from now until about midnight Friday (that's midnight for most of you - about 6 pm for me) to come up with suggestions for a new name.  Then, I'll close out the poll about the Bygone Ciffers and slap up a new one with the suggestions for a new name.  Staying the same will be an option.

Please note:  the URL will remain the same.  The only thing that will change is the bit at the top of the page where it says "The Thread Never Ends..."

And, yes, the ellipsis is my favourite punctuation.  Closely followed by the em dash/em rule.

  3. Ok, my nomination is a Tea House related name, but I'd add it beneath the current title (I like The Thread Never Ends); i.e. a name-cum-subtitle (tea house related).

  5. I like Tea House related themes, i think it very apt, then we can have "the thread that never ends" as the sort of subheading bit... i love ellipsises (ellipsi?) too... Jesus this is going to bug me, whats the damn plural of ellipsis?

  6. Well as a different name, I'd be a fan of Kizbot's magnificent "The Untrusted". It's what CiF would want, heh heh...

  7. Don't want to get all post-colonial here bitterweed, but let's not embrace the concept of "the other" and accept Cif's terminology. How about we make up our own name and define ourselves without reference to them.

  11. @Jay:

Ellipsises, oddly enough, is the plural of ellipsis.

  13. Bitterweed, "otherfuckers" is suitably industrial (linguistically) and has a nice ring to it. But, unfortunately, it still predicates our identity on Cif definitions and our difference from "them". NO reference to Cif - we are not them, nor different from them, we just "are". Ain't PCL theory a bitch? :o)

  14. I thought it was ellipses.

These alt-forums (fora?) always seem to predicate themselves on their otherness, anyway. Such as every forum begun because someone popular got ejected from the mothership, usually called "Free Said-Banned-Person" or "Aren't Those Moderators At Said-Mothership A Bunch of Bastards?".

Surely CiF is one thing people here have in common.

  15. "Surely CiF is one thing people here have in common."

Yes and no, humanist. Some people here can't contribute to Cif. Some don't read it much either. This blog may have its origins in Cif, but so what? And it didn't start as a result of banning, and it's still fairly new, so it theoretically could go many different ways.

btw, the PCL stuff was partly ironic. Should I also throw in the PCL concept of the colonies being the mother's children. No wait, Cif is NOT my fucking mommy! :o)

  17. Given the origins and your desire to have a watering hole kind of name, what about "The Done Inn"?

  18. I don't know about it as a name but I think of myself and all as coprianairetoi or dung-foundlings, shit urchins, children of garbage and of the ashes.
